Hello Everyone, Our next Science unit is going to be Ecosystems. As a part of this unit each pair of students will build an aquarium and a terrarium. These are made out of two-liter clear bottles like the one pictured. I’m hoping that between all of us we could come up with 30 bottles by next week. Please let [...]
These are a few pictures from our “Can-struction” project with our third grade buddies. Each pair of students was given four canned goods and a couple of packages and the group was asked to make a castle. The students then had about 15 minutes to work together to come up with any design that they chose. [...]
I just thought I would share some things that are going on in Room 197. I am doing the Fountas and Pinell reading assessment on all students. This is a 1 on 1 assessment that takes place during our literacy block for about two weeks. At the same time the students are working independently or [...]

Food Chemistry: Our science unit for the next 6 weeks will be food chemistry. We will be testing several foods for protein, sugar, fat, and starch. Then we will be looking at the nutritional value of some of the foods we eat.
Students in Room 197 working in groups to investigate the measure of angles on quadrangles and pentagons.
Lots of computer time today. The students practiced on Spelling City, played games on Everyday Math, and finished their bio poems for Open House. They had snack on the rug because the brand-new laptops were on their desks!
I just watched the latest weather forecast and checked the hour-by-hour forecast and there is a chance of thunder showers tomorrow. I’m thinking positively and hope that we’ll spend the day at Bayside as planned. But, if we have to come back early or are not able to go, we will be having lunch in [...]
