HOMEWORK

My purpose in assigning homework is to give children the additional opportunity to practice what they have worked on at school. We all know if we want to get better at something, we have to practice, this includes school.

Your child writes down his/her homework  in their binder.  It is their responsiblity to bring the homework home, do it or ask for help in doing it, get it initialed and signed, and return it to school.

This year, we are trying to be more consistent as a third grade team with homework.  The beginning of September we are trying out a tic tac toe board approach where the children may choose 3 ways in which to practice the skills they have been practicing here at school.  We will gradually be increasing the homework as the year goes along and may vary the approach (from tic tac toe to a menu or bingo board).

Any questions or concerns about homework should be e-mailed to me or sent in a note. If for some reason, your child has been unable to complete their homework, please either e-mail me or send a note with your child and additional time will be given. Remember the habits of homework completion, study skills and being responsible for their
at-home work begins now and sets the stage for the grades ahead.

Third Grade Homework (1/7/13)

Play Connect 4, Four in a Row.  Choose 1 or more square(s) each night to work on.  This will work out to be 4 nights of homework.  Parents, please, initial each square your child completes AND sign off that your child completed 4 nights of homework.  Return the signed Connect 4 board on Friday for a small reward:

E=5 or more boxes initialed and completed=Prize Box Pick

M=4 boxes initialed and completed=Sticker Choice

WT=3 or less boxes initialed and completed=Star on the Paper

Please note:  While homework is NOT graded on a weekly basis (as stated in District policy), it will be recorded and the grades listed above will accumulate toward the report card grade for homework.
