Monday, April 30th, 2012

Award Winners

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Hi everyone, I’m here to announce the winning titles in our Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award Program and the Red Clover Award Program! The Malletts Bay School fourth and fifth graders (who choose to take part) picked Smile as their top choice for DCF. Our third and fourth graders picked Born Yesterday as their favorite Red Clover book.

So far the official totals for the Red Clover Award have Born Yesterday in the lead.  The offical winning DCF title is… Smile! Great job MBS for choosing winning titles!

Keep reading, Ms. Hebert

This year is flying by!

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

We have been back for one month now! It is so nice to see students enjoying a good book no matter where they are in our school! Soon we will be talking about the Dorothy Canfield Fisher books for this school year with fourth and fifth grade. So many students are already hooked on the DCF program. Thank you for sharing your excitement with me! The third and fourth graders have already begun reading the Red Clover books for 2011-2012. We have laughed over the creative work of David Wiesner for the book, Art & Max! A few students from each grade level have started to research topics during their reading block. We are making a plan for our research. They bring such enthusiasm to fact finding around a topic of their choice!

Project Time – Wild Tech

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Welcome to Wild Tech!  Our question that we will need to answer in your work is … What impact are humans having on the earth that may impact wildlife? Your first task is to think of an animal to research.  Please go to the Links for Kids on the sidebar to locate Kidsplanet.  Once in kidsplanet, please go to get the facts. There is a list of endangered animals that may help your search.  Keep track of where you find information as well as your notes. You may decide to work alone or in groups of two or three people. We are on a tight timeline so working together may help.  We only meet 8 times so keep that in mind as you work! I am looking forward to watching you create! Have fun, Ms. Hebert

Hi all,

Just a reminder that you have until the end of March to read your 5 DCF books and turn in your DCF slips! Great job on reading so far this year : )  The popcorn has already started on the DCF bulletin board!  Thank you for all your time and energy with this program – I am so proud!

Fondly,

Ms. Hebert

Dorothy Canfield Fisher books

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

I am so excited to see students in grades 4 to 8 reading books on the 2010-2011 DCF List!  The students have asked me to share about the books so they can decide which ones to read this year.  I discovered a DCF prezi which I quite enjoyed so I added it to the DCF Links on the sidebar.  I will be sharing it with Library classes to help them discover the books on the list for this school year.  The titles are listed on our school website under the Library section in the Unified Arts heading.  I hope that you find a book that sounds interesting to you while we take a look at DCF.
