Putting on a puppet show in the UMS library

We were able to purchase a very cool reading bench from Scholastic Dollars. (which actually means we got it for free.)  The children use it during library time and put on puppet shows for their classmates. They also like to sit on it during story time… I call them the “bench warmers”.

First Grade Readers Enjoy a Little Critter by Mercer Mayer

A few first grade friends practiced mental imaging. After they drew pictures of  “Big Paw” by Mercer Mayer, we watched the short video on the computer. It was fun and the boys realized that sometimes our imaginations do not fit with the real story.

The Union Memorial Book Fair

The bookfair has been busy with students previewing all day Monday and Tuesday. The selection is great. I never realized how popular Star Wars has become but any Star Wars book is the hit with the UMS boys! We are open tonight during parent teacher conferences and Thursday night until 7:00pm.

The spring book fair has sprung at UMS!!

The students have started to “preview” the books at our Scholastic book fair. There are plenty of choices for all the various reading levels and interests in our school. It is fun to see the students get excited about books. Hope many parents can stop in during conference time to check out the selection.

Our kindergarten emergent reading program is just fantastic. We have the most dedicated volunteers that come in and read every week to our kindergarten students. We love volunteers and reading to a child is so relaxing and worthwhile.

Officer Pete Hull came to the Union Memorial libray and read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss to Mrs Sorenson’s first grade class. The students enjoyed it and Officer Hull did too!

New books for our library

Over February vacation I was able to purchase some new books for the UMS library. Many students have been asking me to buy ” Magic Kitten”, “Magic Pony” and some new titles in the My Weird School Daze series. These are all chapter books at a second grade reading level.
