Happy Mother’s Day!
We have been very busy learning about rocks. So far we have collected and sorted different rocks, learned about the rock cycle and types of rocks, and discussed the earth’s layers. Students have written a story about a special rock that I hope to put on my blog on Monday.
Erin Boyd’s grandfather came in with a collection of rocks and a powerpoint presentation. It was nice to have a speaker that has such a strong interest. Thanks!
Next week we will start our final unit on Lake Champlain. It is amazing how quickly the year has passed. Our end of year field trip is planned for May 31st at Echo. Please fill out the attached permission slip.
Also attached, you will find your child’s unit 11 math checklist. We should complete our final unit next week. That means no more math homework after Wednesday. Hurray!
I would like to thank everyone for making Teacher Appreciation week so wonderful. It is a hectic time of year, so the breakfast, lunch, goody bag and massage were truly appreciated. I feel so lucky to be part of such a caring community.
Please help your child to remember to bring in their library books on Wednesday. I am afraid that our class does not have a good record with Mrs. Kadish. I am hoping that children take on responsibility to prep them for third grade.
I will be doing end of year assessments during the next two weeks. Hopefully your child doesn’t get frustrated. I always tell them that we test so teachers can learn what they need to teach better.
June 1st is Move Up day. Second graders will be going to Malletts Bay School to check it out. There are a few new teachers coming in so I am not sure if they get to meet their third grade teacher. Project Inside Out starts on June 5th. I am looking forward to a fun end of the year!

Hi friends!
Miss Kustas did a fabulous job with her solo week. Children were motivated and are loving learning about plants and procedure writing. Eleni’s last day is next Friday, April 20th. She will truly be missed by all of us. It is not too late to contribute to her bookbag. Please have your child write a short note and sign the book so she will remember them whenever she reads the book.
Our annual music concert is on Thursday, April 19th. Hopefully you have all seen the yellow notice that went home on Monday. Face painting starts at 5:45 in the High School cafeteria. I have checked individuals that have solo parts and would like to thank you for practicing at home. My biggest suggestions are to slow down and enunciate each word. It is always a wonderful performance. I can’t wait.
Second grade teachers are planning our end of year field trip to Echo. The tentative date is Thursday, May 31st. We hope you can join us as a chaperone. Please save the date!
Attached is Unit 10’s math assessment checklist. Thanks for helping your child with their nightly homework. Remember that they also need to read for at least 10 minutes each night.
There are only two more science/social studies units for the year. We will start learning about rocks after vacation. Our last unit is Lake Champlain.
Next Friday starts April beak. I hope you have some great plans!

Hello everyone!
I hope you enjoyed winter break. It was nice seeing so many of you at conferences.
We have been having fun following mushers on the Iditarod trail and learning about Alaska. I hope the musher that your child chose did well. Our next science unit is “Plants” and will start a week from today.
Hopefully everyone went home on Wednesday and shared their experience with local musher, Chris Hayes. Mrs. Bisssonnette’s class joined our class for a slideshow presentation. The children asked some really good questions. Mr. Hayes allowed children to play on his sleds and engine-less four wheeler. Everyone enjoyed seeing and petting the dogs.
Attached is your child’s unit 9 math assessment results. A new homework packet will go home on Monday. Remember to only do the dated page. You can expect homework on Monday through Thursday (unless there is a test like yesterday).
I sent home placement paperwork from Malletts Bay School last week. Please take the time to fill it out and return it a.s.a.p. The placement process takes a while and your input is appreciated. Malletts Bay’s principal popped in on Monday to introduce herself to our class. The plan is to have placement done before move up day in June.
Please look for a note from Ms. Mutz. The musical this year is “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”. Our class will be performing on Thursday, April 19th at Colchester High School at 6:30. Save the date!
Miss Kustas is getting ready for teaching a solo (without me in the room) week starting April 2nd. Eleni is hard working and well prepared. I am sure all will go well.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Hello everyone!
We started a new social studies unit on Alaska and the Iditarod on Wednesday. Each child has chosen a musher to follow. I am sending the name home today. The race begins on Sunday, March 4th. It usually lasts for 8-10 days. We will be following the race on the internet at www.iditarod.com. Since the race will be on its fourth day by the time children get back from vacation, you may want to check out their position from home.
Attached is your child’s second trimester report card. Please return the envelope during your conference on Tuesday, March 6th. Your assigned conference time is listed below. I am looking forward to seeing everyone!
Remember that school starts back on March 7th. Look for a permission slip for a field trip to the Flynn to go home on that day.
Have a wonderful vacation break.

Hello friends!
It is hard to believe that the month is coming to an end. I am getting ready to assess students for their 2nd report card. If you still have your report card envelope, please return it to school. I am missing quite a few of them.
Our class has been very busy learning about dinosaurs. This week we made some fossils and skeletons. During writing, children have been practicing writing reports that have a focus, supporting details and a wrap-up sentence.
You and your family are invited to a Dinosaur celebration on Tuesday, February 7th. Children are excited about sharing what they have learned. Many of the projects are delicate, so it would be helpful to send them home with an adult. Please plan on joining us between 7:45 and 8:10 a.m. Juice and mini-muffins will be provided to kick start your morning. Look for a more formal invitation to go home soon.
We had our last D.A.R.E. class on Monday. Mr. Moses will start a five week guidance class starting next Monday.
We will be having a Valentine’s Day party on February 14th. Children can bring their valentines to school on that day. Below you will find a list of all of the children in our class. Everyone always enjoys giving and receiving valentines from their friends.
I am hoping to add another song to our blog soon. If you have subscribed on my page, you should receive notification whenever I post something new. I hope you are enjoying it.
February is “I love to read and write” month. I have attached a calendar for you to initial each day that your child reads for at least ten minutes. If they meet the class goal of four times a week, they will earn a prize. Just return the calendar on February 24th.
I am also looking for adults to come in and read one of their favorite children’s books to the class. Read aloud is daily at 2:15 to 2:30. Let me know if you are interested and when you are available. Hope you can make it in!
