Only 84 of Vermont’s 300 public schools (and 18% nationally) made Adequate Yearly Progress this year. Union Memorial School was one of those schools! Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is the distinction the federal and state governments give schools who meet or exceed their performance goals. In fact, Union Memorial School has met the state’s goals in reading and math every year since No Child Left Behind’s inception in 2002. Though standardized test scores are but one of many factors that determine a school’s effectiveness, it’s important to recognize this achievement. I am very proud of the education our students receive.
